Use these in bios and display names. Usernames and @handles on Instagram, TikTok, Discord and X only take plain letters, numbers and a few symbols. Safe, mostly safe and may show boxes come from our font tests.

Flip coverage

Which characters change and which stay as they are. For upside down, characters that look the same when turned around, such as o and x, are kept. Reversed simply writes the text backwards and works for every character.

Three ways to turn text

Upside down swaps each letter for a look-alike that reads correctly when the line is rotated half a turn, and it also reverses the order of the letters, so the end of your sentence comes first. Mirror uses reversed look-alikes and also reverses the order, as if the text was held up to a mirror. Reversed only writes the same letters backwards, so it works for every character.

Letters that stay put

Some letters look the same when turned around. In the upside down style these are kept as typed: H, I, N, O, S, X, Z, l, o, s, x, z and the digits 0 and 8. Mirror has fewer matches, so more letters stay as they were, and the table under the list shows both sets from the Unicode data.

Upside-down text is often used as a joke. Do not use it in places where people must read your name, and remember that screen readers read the real characters, which are often letters from other alphabets.

Questions

Why is my sentence also backwards?

Turning a line half a turn puts its last letter first, so we reverse the order as well.

Which letters have no flipped form?

Letters that look the same when turned stay as typed, and some capitals have no good look-alike.

Does it work with several lines?

Yes. For the upside down style the lines are also put in reverse order, like a paragraph turned around.

Is it safe on old phones?

The styles are labelled Safe in our font test. A few of the borrowed letters come from phonetic alphabets, so check how they look on a second phone.
