Use these in bios and display names. Usernames and @handles on Instagram, TikTok, Discord and X only take plain letters, numbers and a few symbols. Safe, mostly safe and may show boxes come from our font tests.

The seven bubble styles

Bubble puts each letter in a white circle, and Filled bubble uses black circles with white letters. Squares and Filled squares do the same with squares. Parentheses puts each letter in round brackets. Letter tiles use the letters that normally make country flags. Ringed adds a circle character after each letter.

Squares only exist for capitals, so lowercase letters are shown as capitals and digits stay normal.

Watch for emoji

Some letters in this family are also emoji. In the filled squares style the A, B, O and P can turn into emoji squares, and in the white circle style the M can. Letter tiles are the extreme case: every tile is a regional indicator letter, which phones draw as colour emoji, and two in a row can merge into a flag. We put an invisible separator between tiles to stop that, and we label the style May show boxes.

The table under the list names each affected letter. If your bio must look identical everywhere, choose Bubble or Parentheses and check the result on a second phone. The font test behind the labels is in the compatibility data.

Questions

Why is my A a red square?

In the filled squares style, A, B, O and P also exist as emoji, and some apps draw the emoji version instead.

What are letter tiles?

They are regional indicator letters, normally used in pairs to make flags. We separate them with an invisible character so they stay letters.

Do bubble letters work with numbers?

The circle styles cover digits, the square styles do not. Digits stay normal in the square styles.

Can a screen reader read bubble text?

Often it reads each letter by name, for example circled latin small letter a. Add your plain text nearby.
