Script letter chart

Every letter of the Script style with its Unicode code point and the Unicode version that added it. Highlighted cells are the 11 letters that live in a different Unicode block (Letterlike Symbols), not in the main math-script block: B E F H I L M R e g o. Some fonts draw those separately, which is why a script word can look uneven.

Which cursive style fits you

There are five cursive-looking styles here. Script has thin, flowing capitals and is the closest to handwriting. Bold script is heavier and holds up better on small screens. Italic serif and bold italic serif are slanted letters with feet, and Italic sans slants a clean sans letter. Three more rows wrap script letters in sparkles, wings or a heart.

Cursive text is hard to read when it is short and tiny, so use it for a name or a short phrase, not a whole paragraph.

The 11 letters that are different

Unicode did not give every script letter its own place in the main script block. Eleven of them, B E F H I L M R e g o, live in an older block called Letterlike Symbols. They look the same in most fonts, but a few fonts draw them with a different weight, so a word can look slightly uneven. The chart below the list shows every letter with its code point and the Unicode version that added it, and highlights those eleven.

In the italic style the lowercase h is a different borrowed character, the Planck constant sign, for the same reason.

Questions

What is the difference between script and bold script?

Script is thin and light. Bold script uses the same shapes with thicker strokes, which stays readable at small sizes.

Why does one letter look different in my script word?

Eleven script letters come from an older Unicode block, and some fonts draw them in a slightly different way. The chart on this page shows which ones.

Does cursive text work in a bio?

The script letters were found in the system fonts of Android 8 to 14 and Windows 10 that we measured, so they are labelled Safe. We did not test iPhones.

Will a screen reader read it?

Often by Unicode name, such as mathematical script small c, or it skips the word. Add your plain name somewhere nearby.
