Every style with an Instagram bio counter and a small profile preview, plus a switch that leaves @mentions and #hashtags untouched.

Use these in bios and display names. Usernames and @handles on Instagram, TikTok, Discord and X only take plain letters, numbers and a few symbols. Safe, mostly safe and may show boxes come from our font tests.

Profile preview

Shows the style you copied last, or the first style. The name is the first line, the bio is the whole text.

Counting a bio

Instagram's Help Center says a bio can have up to 150 characters. It does not say how it counts emoji, combining marks or the letters that fancy styles use, and users report that each combining mark counts. So the counter here shows code points, which is the most natural count, and you should leave some room.

The Name field is reported to allow 64 characters. That figure comes from in-app reports and older sources say 30, so it is marked unconfirmed on the meter.

Mentions, hashtags and the preview

Switch on Keep @mentions and #hashtags plain and any word that starts with @ or # is copied exactly as typed, while the rest of your text is styled. It is a good idea because a mention has to match an account exactly.

The preview card shows the first line of the style you copied last as the name and the whole text as the bio. It is a simple picture, not a copy of the app. Usernames on Instagram allow only letters, numbers, periods and underscores, so styles never go in the @handle. The font test behind the labels is in the compatibility data.

Questions

How many characters can an Instagram bio have?

150 according to the Help Center page we read on 24 Oct 2026. The page does not say how fancy characters are counted.

Can I put fancy fonts in my Instagram username?

No. The username allows letters, numbers, periods and underscores.

Do fancy fonts count as more characters?

Users report that combining marks do. Letters from the mathematical blocks are one code point each but use two UTF-16 units.

Will my bio look the same on every phone?

On Android 8 to 14 and Windows 10 the Safe styles passed our test. We did not test iPhones.
