    Does it fit?

Each row counts your text the way we believe that field counts it. Most apps do not publish their counting unit, so this is our count plus the status of each limit.

    Why there are four numbers

A letter can be counted in different ways. Characters here means Unicode code points, one for each letter, symbol or mark. UTF-16 units is how many 16-bit pieces the text uses in many programs, and the letters in fancy styles use two each. X weighted is how X counts posts: most plain characters weigh 1, but the mathematical letters, fullwidth letters, enclosed letters and most symbols weigh 2, and a link weighs 23. Visible characters merges a letter with its marks the way a person sees it.

Most platforms do not say which count they use for bios. Instagram and Discord do not document it, so the table below the box uses code points and flags the status of each limit.

    Shortening without losing the look

When your text is too long, the box suggests changes and shows how many characters each would save. The buttons apply them: turning fancy letters back into plain ones, removing combining marks, and trimming extra spaces. Plain letters are shorter on X, where every fancy letter weighs two.

The X numbers use the rules in X's open-source counting library: normalisation, a weight of 1 for the basic ranges and 2 for everything else. X does not document whether display names and bios use the weighted count, so the table treats it as the safer guess.

    Questions

What is the Instagram bio limit?

150 characters, according to the Help Center. The page does not explain how emoji or marks are counted.

Why is my X count higher than the characters?

On X most characters outside basic Latin and common punctuation weigh 2.

    What are visible characters?

A letter and the marks stacked on it count as one visible character, which is how people see text.

    Is the text sent anywhere?

No. Counting happens in your browser. The last text is saved in your own browser.
